Which pixel pitch do you need?
Pitch is the distance between pixels in millimeters. Smaller pitch means a sharper picture up close and a higher price. A good rule of thumb is about 3.3 ft of viewing distance per millimeter.
| Pixel pitch | Looks sharp from about | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| P2.3 to P3.2 | 8 to 10 ft | Entrances, storefronts, sidewalk and drive-thru screens |
| P3.8 to P4.8 | 13 to 16 ft | Monument signs near parking lots, schools, churches |
| P6.3 to P7.8 | 20 to 26 ft | Pylon and pole signs on city streets |
| P9.5 to P10.4 | 31 to 34 ft and up | Highway signs and billboards |
Rule of thumb only. Readability also depends on letter size, contrast and how fast traffic is moving, so we confirm pitch from your site photo before quoting.

What every cabinet has in common
- IP66 sealed against rain and dust
- Rated to run from -22 to 140 °F (-30 to 60 °C)
- Die-cast or extruded aluminum, passive cooling, no fans
- Cabinets rated for winds up to 150 mph
- ETL and FCC listed
- 16.7 million colors, 3,000 Hz+ refresh (no flicker on camera)
- 110° horizontal viewing angle
- Common-cathode LEDs that run cooler and use less power
- Front serviceable, so wall signs don't need rear access
- Each module runs on its own, so one bad module doesn't black out the sign

Upgrade without rebuilding
Every pitch in a family fits the same mounting frame. Start at P10 for the budget and move to a sharper face later on the same structure.
Run it from your phone
A weatherproof controller mounts at the sign and connects over Wi-Fi, wired internet or 4G.
- Load and schedule content from a computer, tablet or phone
- Auto-dims by time of day or ambient light sensor
- Remote on/off and live status monitoring
- Temperature and brightness sensors
- Audio out and USB for local content
Know this before you buy
- Check your city's sign ordinance first. Most cities limit digital sign size, night brightness and how often the message changes.
- The structure matters as much as the screen. Retrofitting an existing cabinet is the cheapest path; a new pole or monument needs footings and engineering.
- You need power at the sign. A 4 x 8 ft P6.3 sign averages about 720 W and can peak near 2,400 W.
- Pick pitch by viewing distance, not by the spec sheet. Paying for P3 on a highway sign buys detail nobody can see.
- Plan who makes the content. A great screen with a cluttered slide still loses to a clean static sign. Our design team can build it.

Outdoor LED sign questions
What is an outdoor LED sign?
An outdoor LED sign is a full-color video screen built for weather, made of sealed aluminum cabinets packed with red, green and blue LEDs. It shows anything you can put on a screen: video, photos, specials, time and temperature. Ours are IP66 sealed, run 4,000 to 11,000 nits depending on pixel pitch, and are built to the size of your sign from 1 x 2 ft panels, 2 x 4 ft or 3 x 4 ft cabinets, or 1 x 1 meter cabinets for billboards.
What pixel pitch do I need for an outdoor LED sign?
Pixel pitch is the distance between pixels in millimeters, and it sets how close people can stand before the picture breaks into dots. A common rule of thumb is about 3.3 feet of viewing distance for every millimeter: P10 looks right from roughly 33 ft and beyond, P6 from about 20 ft, P4 from about 13 ft and P2.5 from about 8 ft. Roadside and highway signs usually run P6 to P10. Signs read up close at a storefront or entrance need P2.5 to P4.
Is an LED sign bright enough in direct Alabama sun?
Yes. The cabinets run 4,000 to 11,000 nits depending on pitch, which reads in full afternoon sun. A light sensor or a schedule dims the sign at night so it isn't glaring and stays within local brightness rules.
How do I change what's on the sign?
A weatherproof controller mounts at the sign and connects over Wi-Fi, wired internet or 4G. You load and schedule content from a computer, tablet or phone, check that the sign is on and working, adjust brightness and turn it on or off remotely.
What sizes can you build?
Almost any size. Signs built from 1 x 2 ft panels grow in 1 ft steps, which suits monument signs and message centers. Larger signs use 2 x 4 ft or 3 x 4 ft cabinets, and billboards and building walls use 1 x 1 meter cabinets. We also quote double-faced 4 x 8 ft signs and double-faced 12 x 24 ft billboards.
How much power does an outdoor LED sign use?
It depends on size and content. As an example, a 4 x 8 ft sign built from four 2 x 4 ft cabinets at P6.3 averages about 720 watts and can peak around 2,400 watts on a full white screen, on 110V or 220V AC. Your quote lists average and maximum draw so your electrician can size the circuit.
Will an LED sign hold up to storms and heat?
The cabinets are die-cast or extruded aluminum, sealed to IP66 against rain and dust, and rated to run from -22 to 140 °F. The cabinets are rated for winds up to 150 mph, but the pole, monument or wall they mount to has to be engineered for your site too.
Can I upgrade to a sharper screen later?
Yes. Every pixel pitch in a cabinet family fits the same mounting frame, so you can move to a higher-resolution face later without rebuilding the structure.
Do I need a permit for a digital sign?
Usually. Most cities regulate digital signs, including size, setback, night brightness and how often the message can change. Check with your city before you order. We can set the sign's brightness and message timing to match what your permit allows.
What do I send to get an outdoor LED sign quote?
The size you want (or a photo of the existing sign cabinet with measurements), single or double-sided, the address or a photo of the site, how far away people will be reading it from, whether power is already at the sign, and what you plan to show. Tell us if you need the structure and installation quoted too.
